"Passkey Login Failed" with a device not previously added.

Open extropyst opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Description

I have lost (it has been stolen) my cell phone where I had previously installed "Ente Auth", and now when I try to access it again from a new cell phone, after entering the credentials through Proton Pass, and entering the token received by email, then It asks me to use a Passkey from the previous device to which I no longer have access.

I leave screenshots for more details of the process (click to see higher resolution):

The passkeys that Ente Auth are using are the device bound ones (think this set as a flag during enrollment) so they are never stored in Google Password Manager, Microsoft Hello or any other password manager app.

Come across this a few days ago, but as I had saved the recovery passphrase I was able to recover. The option to use the recovery passphrase is inside a native app window. Unfortunately this app window is not clear visible as it is overlayed by a webbrowser window asking to access the non-existent passkey.

Think the fact of saving and optional using the recovery passphare should made more prominent in app during enrollment of passkeys and recovery of app on a new device.
