Updating header or footer after creation of prompt

It would be much easier to implement some functionality if this were possible. Is it?

I tried overwriting prompt.state.header and it did not "take".

However it works perfectly to update the value that is referenced by the originally provided function. But this makes for some additional boilerplate that is hard to wrangle.
