VS 2017 rewrites designer.cs file

I am working with ribbonlib and when form[design] reloads it frequently rewrites or loses any changes I've made to form.designer.cs. Also, the lack of documentation is killing me. How can I capture the ribbon1.Minimized state to increase the height of my content and eliminate the blank space when the ribbon is minimized?
