Feature request: delete mails from mbox file

Open Niehztog opened this issue 7 months ago • 3 comments

Hello @eneam , thank you for your great and valuable work! This is of great help. Could you implement the functionality to delete or remove the selected emails from the mbox file either by pressing delete key or right click menu? This way I coudl tidy up my huge mbox file.

@Niehztog

MBox Viewer keeps all emails in mbox files. In order to delete subset of emails, MBox Viewer needs to create new mbox file without deleted emails. Once new file is created, you can delete original mbox file.

See the following links on how to do it using MBox Viewer:

Let me know if the approach worked for you and/or you have more questions.

Hello @zigm , thank you for your reply. The "work around" you provided works for me. 👍

@Niehztog

Below are pictures to illustrate steps.

  1. Copy selected mails to "User Selected Mails"

  1. The red marking indicates mails that are now in "User Selected Mails" list

  1. Select "User Selected Mails" and remove the first two mails. Switch back to "All Mails". You will notice that the first two mails are no longer marked. You can copy these mails to "User Selected Mails" again if needed.

  1. Select "User Selected Mails" and create an archive file if needed. You can also create a file with the list of mails in "User Selected Mails" in case you want to exit MBox Viewer and restore mails in "User Selected Mails" later.
