Windows warning about using MBox Veiwer

Open jddavidm opened this issue 9 months ago • 6 comments

Just downloaded the app, and running the 64-bit version (on Windows 10) had Windows prompting me of the "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk." message.

@jddavidm

Thanks for reporting the issue.

Did you download v1.0.3.48 or v1.0.3.47 labelled as the latest incorrectly by Github.

I have seen such problem few times and one time I had to raise the ticket to Microsoft Security team.

Can you run Windows Update to make sure system is up to date?

I don't see similar issue on my PC . I am aware that a number of users are running v47 and v48 and they didn't report any issues.

On Sourceforge, MBox Viewer is scanned for malware by Bitdefender

Assuming you downloaded MBox Viewer from Github, if I remember correctly, you can select More Info and allow the MBox Viewer to run.

You can also right click on mboxview64.exe and select "Scan with Microsoft Defender" option to make sure no viruses.

Hi

Apparently MBox Viewer doesn't have enough reputations at different times. MBox Viewer is not the signed app with the certificate. You may need to trust MBox Viewer based on user's reputation and allow to run.

This is what I did, and everything works fine
