An alternative that is actively maintained (and I have recently used) is https://github.com/gjtorikian/html-proofer, that seems to do the job as well - may be of interest?

If you need just link checking, minus extracting from HTML pages like html-proofer, try https://github.com/dblock/ruby-link-checker.
