[Request - Product] Windows PowerShell

Open sdwheeler opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Full and short name of product

  • Full name: Windows PowerShell
  • Short name: powershell.exe

Does this product have LTS versions? What are the intervals between each LTS version?

Support for Windows PowerShell is based on the version of Windows it runs on. Windows PowerShell 5.1 comes preinstalled on the supported versions of Windows. All previous versions of Windows PowerShell are no longer supported.

What is the website for the product and for its version information?

The current page for PowerShell lists Windows PowerShell version information. That page incorrectly lists the end of support date for Windows PowerShell 5.1 as 12 Jan 2027.

The product page for PowerShell should be split into 2 pages; one for PowerShell and one for Windows PowerShell.

I found https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/windows-powershell/wmf-overview that confirm newer Windows Server Versions also Support WMF 5.1 and therefore Windows 2016 is not the last with support.

Quick update for 5.1 eol in #6909 -> Preview https://deploy-preview-6909--endoflife-date.netlify.app/powershell

I agree to split PowerShell and Windows PowerShell but with a separate MR.

I agree to split PowerShell and Windows PowerShell but with a separate MR.

What is a "separate MR"?

For the split, the Windows PowerShell information should be removed from the PowerShell page and added to the new page. The PowerShell page should have a link to refer people to the Windows PowerShell page. I can help writing the descriptions on the pages. I write the docs for PowerShell.
