enhancement: Links to articles should specify target=

Open tensiondriven opened this issue 5 years ago • 4 comments

I was browsing the Recent page at https://digraph.app/recent and clicked on a link, and the browser went to the link I clicked on. Once I was done reading the article though, I wanted to get back to Digraph and I was confused because I didn't have a tab for it.

This might not be a bug, but i think the app would be sticker if links to articles specified target=_blank or target="article", something that would preserve the Digraph tab for the user (ie links would open in a new tab). Or maybe this is a feature request for a user preference.. not sure, but wanted to log it while it was top of mind.

You're the second person to mention that. I only have a weak, almost non-preference for clicking through instead of opening in a new tab. But I'll try this and see how it feels and how people like it.

I have to wonder, though — is the expectation that links open into new tabs, without an icon along the lines of the one seen in Wikipedia?

My expectation is that the links do not open into a new tab without this, and so I always CMD-click open links into new tabs.

If I click a link to another website, I generally think its going to open in a tab. For internal links, I don't expect that. I can see that going either way, though.

I'm going to wait for more data on this one. So far it's 2:1 for links opening in new tabs (you and another person wanting links to open in a new browser tab, and me wanting click through links).
