server.exitaftertest=true not working

I am building a distributed load test setup where the argument for server.exitaftertest=true is not being respected keeping in this case my docker container alive after the "master" JMeter node has exited and concluded the test is complete. I can see exit requested in the container log but it doesn't appear it is actually happening with this plugin (tested by disabling all the MQTT samplers and re-running where it did exit successfully).

Has anyone run into this? I am completely willing to assist in correcting the problem.
