[possible UltraQuality level] Like a Dragon: Ishin, testers needed!

Open emoose opened this issue 1 year ago • 6 comments

Apparently the new DLSS update for Like a Dragon: Ishin! slipped in the UltraQuality level with it, but unfortunately the level doesn't actually work as UQ, but just uses Balanced settings instead, so lower settings than the Quality level even: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/12c53xf/latest_like_a_dragon_ishin_update_adds_dlss/

The UltraQuality tweak here might let you change the ratio of it though, so it could act as a true UQ level, if any owners are up for testing it that'd be appreciated. (just set DLSSQualityLevels > Enabled = true, uncomment the UltraQuality line under that, make sure it's set to something like UltraQuality = 0.77, then check with OverrideDlssHud = 1 to see what res you get)

Unfortunately since the UQ option shows up by itself (without needing DLSSTweaks to make it appear) I'd guess this is probably going to trick a lot of people into thinking they're playing at higher quality than they actually are, might end up getting patched out once enough people notice it.

Some other games were mentioned in that thread to have UltraQuality setting available too, those could have similar issue where it actually just sets one of the other DLSS levels when chosen, if anyone owns one of these I'd be interested in any results from them:

  • High On Life
  • System Shock Remake
  • one other game was mentioned too but I can't remember it now, and some reason they got downvoted so they've deleted the post, too bad - if you know any other games that use UltraQuality feel free to post though!

High On Life System Shock Remake

I can test both of these, SSR when it releases.

I'll report back with HoL asap.

Hey there, I tried Ishin and can confirm everything.

I used the 0.200.5-beta5.

Ultra Quality, by default indeed use the balanced preset, using DLSSTweaks can fix the issue and make UltraQuality work as it should (or whatever number you type in the .ini), game use preset D by default.

The only issue is, the DLSSTweak overlay don't work well (does not matter if you put =1 or =2), it only show up while the game is loading into the main menu, once you get to the menu it's gone and get replaced by black bar, but there's plenty of time to read the info before that.

By the way my two cents about DLSS in this game : it don't work that great image wise the image is less stable than TAA and some jaggies get added around some edges, same goes for DLAA with preset F, there's a bit more aliasing here and there in motion compared to the in game TAA, sadly.

Just loaded up HoL and it does indeed come with Ultra Quality out of the box now.

Shame on me for not reading through the whole post, testing the rest now!

Done!

It does indeed work with your dll.

HoL forced 0.75% HoL forced 0 75%

HoL default UQ HoL default UQ

Default UQ is equal to Balanced so not sure what's happening there.

It just occurred to me that I was using dll redirect to utilize 3.1.11

I retested with the default dll and it was identical.

Default dll "UQ" Default dll UQ

Default dll forced 0.75% Default dll 0 75%

Please let me know if this is sufficient, as I will uninstall the game once you do :)

Ah good to hear, don't think I need anything more from it, thanks for testing it out!

Interesting that it also defaults to Balanced when selecting UQ there too, both HoL and Ishin are UE4 afaik, guess it could be something up with the UE4 DLSS plugin, could be worth checking other UE4 titles that include DLSS support too...

(Hogwarts Legacy is also UE4 too, but IIRC that only shows UltraQuality if it's been customized)

No problem.

I know I'm lazy asking this, but if you can give me names more UE4 games to test feel free :)

I think you're right about Hogwarts, I can test that later to see if it does indeed only show UQ with your dll.

No problem.

If there's more UE4 games that you'd like me to test, let me know. If I have them, I'm happy to help :)

I think you're right about that assumption in HL
