The ChibiOS HAL can be used standalone, without the main RTOS. The HAL is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license and is free for all purposes.

If you think you can use the HAL to speed along megaAVR support then please do. I'd love to take keyplus for a spin on my ErgoDox EZ.
