Quickstart doesn't boot on a Raspberry Pi B+ v1.2

I have rpi B+ (from 2014) that cannot get through kernel init. Tried an older prebuilt https://github.com/elixir-circuits/circuits_quickstart/releases/tag/v0.1.0 with the same issue.

The attached image IMG_1479

is where it stops. The next message would be "console enabled". Which I only know because another B+ works. Maybe this board is bad, but it does boot raspbian ok.
