Cannot annotate text that spans two PDF pages

The annotate and highlight buttons do not appear if I highlight a sentence that starts on one page and finishes on the next page of a pdf. They only appear if I highlight within the bounds of one page. Wondering if something about the page numbers/header is interfering, but I really don't know.

This has already been requested a couple of times, such as in issues #154, #186, and #281.
