Cannot switch back to markdown view using keyboard shortcut

The shortcut (I setup cmd + u) as the shortcut on my macbook. It works for going to annotation view from markdown view, and can switch back to markdown. The shortcut stops working when I make a highlight / annotation or zoom in/out in the pdf.

The current solution is to close the tab and open again, which defaults to open in markdown view
