Ability to paste images/screenshots in annotations?

In markdown mode, if you have an image in your clipboard then pasting it copies the image to your attachments directory and inserts a link. This doesn't currently seem to work in annotation mode directly, although if you switch to markdown mode and paste the image, it is rendered correctly in the annotation.

Is it possible to enable pasting directly in the sidebar annotation editor?
