Show keyboard shortcuts in tabbar tooltips

Open waldyrious opened this issue 8 years ago • 4 comments

The buttons close tab, close window, new tab, etc. in the GUI currently show a tooltip saying just that ("Close Tab", etc.). It would be nice if the tooltips included the associated keyboard shortcuts so that users could learn about them gradually.

Ideally all the actions defined here should have this behavior.

I'm not sure this is a good long-term strategy. As of Gtk 3.20 (I think) we'll have a new standard keyboard shortcut widget. If we changed all these tooltip labels now, we'd likely break translations and then we'd just likely revert them all next cycle when we implement the shortcut widget

Thanks for the quick response! As long as that widget emulates the proposed behavior (of making the shortcuts visible), I agree it makes sense to wait for that functionality to become available. Out of curiosity, Are there any estimates on how long is that may take?

No earlier than April 2018 because we're waiting for new Ubuntu LTS repos

In that case, I'm not sure the burden to translators would be that high if spread over such a period of time. I'm willing to contribute the Portuguese translations, FWIW :)
