Different background for every display
one should be able to select different background images for every display (on multidisplay-setups).
see attached picture for example.

This image leads me to believe that you don't actually want different images, you want to use the "spanned" scaling option to have the same image spanned across your displays instead of duplicated. Is that correct?

@Daniel if that is a common format for wide wallpapers, it could be an additional feature, but i really want different images.
i have my macbook with 2 external displays arranged like shown in 2012-MBA-displays-640x479.png, so i want a wide wallpaper, which i have in 2 files, for the 2 big screens and a different picture for the internal display. (if i unplug the external displays, the wallpaper should stay)

I'm not sure this is something we can easily or reliably tackle without support in Mutter. I haven't seen a similar feature built into GNOME Shell, for example. I know this is something macOS does, but for everyone who wants this, I feel like there are those who are annoyed by having to manage wallpapers across each display, projector, etc.
