Tweak store flow for "keep shopping"

Open cassidyjames opened this issue 7 years ago • 6 comments

Right now every time you add something to your cart, you're taken straight to the cart. We should figure out a way to support a "keep shopping" flow where it's added to the cart but the user can still easily add more things.

My first thought was change the "Add to Cart" button to "Check Out", and then add a new "Add to Cart" button that lets them keep shopping. Not sure if that's super clear or not, though. Or that this even works with how the store is architected right now…

The other alternative is just a "Keep Shopping" button at the top of the cart page to more clearly link back to the store. That feels easier but also less useful since we're still dumping them to the cart instead of adding it to their cart in the background.

When a user adds an item to the cart just refresh the page, update the cart, and show a notification that the item has been added to the cart. Also, show a cart number near the cart icon which increments per item added to the cart. That's an approach.

You could also do something like when someone adds something to the cart change the model to show them that they added the item to the cart and asks if they want to checkout or continue shopping. Amazon does something similar I think. Heres a really rough mockup. add_to_cart_model continue_shopping_transition continue_shopping_model

Another idea is to add a "Continue Shopping" button on the Cart page that routes to the Store page:

An update on the store. We will no longer be using a modal for showing product information. Each product will have it's own page. On adding to cart, the user is redirected to the checkout page. Ideas and mockups welcome.
