Unable to shutdown/restart on latest kernel (5.13)

Open decisoft opened this issue 3 years ago • 4 comments

Hi everyone,

I'm unable to shutdown since the latest update to kernel, from 5.11 to 5.13. With 5.13, if I try to restart or shutdown the computer (via gui or via cli), it'll never complete the action. Instead, the screen freezes and shows the Slimbook logo, so I have to manually and physically shutdown. To fix temporary the problem, I have to show the GRUB and boot from kernel 5.11, and with that I can shutdown and restart the PC without any problem, as always.

Tech specs (feel free to request more information if necessary)

  • Slimbook ONE (current version).
  • AMD Ryzen 7 4800H.
  • 8 GB of RAM.
  • 250 GB SSD.
  • AMD Radeon Graphics Vega 7.
  • elementary OS 6.1 Jólnir.

Thanks in advance, I'm at your entire disposition.

I have had a similar problem with being unable to shutdown/restart after upgrading from Elementary OS 6 to 6.1:

  • Starbook
  • Quad-Core 11th Gen Intel Cor i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz
  • Intel Xe Graphics (TGL GT2)
  • 32 GB RAM

Additionally, I now run into the following error when trying to update to 6.1 again directly via the AppCenter following a clean Elementary OS 6 install. It stops the update process: "The following packages have unmet dependencies: fwupd-signed: Depends: fwupd (= 1.5.11-0ubuntu1~20.04.2) but 1.7.4+f+3 is to be installed"

Let me know if more information is needed. My apologies if I have overlooked a proposed solution somewhere else.

Quick update: I was able to resolve the issue by

  1. Installing all firmware updates for my Starbook (by Star Labs)
  2. Subsequently starting the update process to ElementaryOS 6.1 via the AppCenter until the first error showed up.
  3. I then closed the AppCenter and switched to the terminal and run
sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade

It completed the rest of the update without a problem. I restarted my device to complete the installation process. All seems to work for now.

I'm facing the exact issue with my UBUNTU ,ZORIN OS CORE.. later I found out issue with latest kernel. I posted on Reddit about this issue the community members said it's causing due to AMD GPU stuffs and some others are facing it too. It'll be sort out in 5.15 kernel they said.. currently I setup my old 5.11 kernel as default one in Grub Screenshot from 2022-01-29 17-01-42.png
