Inbox folder content doesn't seem to be automatically refreshed

What Happened

I search for a duplicate of this issue but I couldn't find anything so I'm opening this one. I left Mail running with my Inbox folder selected so I can check from time to time if there are new messages without having to close and reopen the app (since this takes a bit more time). Unfortunately even after waiting for more than 30 minutes, new incoming messages are not automatically displayed. To workaround this I need to select a different mail folder, go back to Inbox and then new messages will appear.

Expected Behavior

Mail will periodically check for new emails and refresh Inbox content accordingly.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Mail and select Inbox folder
  2. Leave it running
  3. Send yourself a new email from a different mail client
  4. The new email is not displayed when received unless you select a different mail folder, and go back to Inbox or you restart the Mail app.

Will possibly be fixed by the background daemon in #679 - but needs further testing.

The refresh on folder change is related to https://github.com/elementary/mail/pull/676, so I assume we really want to trigger this periodically / independent of the current state of the UI.

Checked the two pull requests above and both are merged so I guess they are included in the latest Mail update. Yet this issue remains and I was also able to confirm that it affects any folder, not just Inbox. So for example if you are sitting on any folder, when there is new mail you will not see it unless you select a different folder and then return to the previous one. This behavior added to https://github.com/elementary/mail/issues/659 makes really difficult to know when there is new email arriving to the folder.

~~I also checked if by manually clicking on the new 'refresh button' in the conversation pane will workaround this, but it doesn't.~~

EDIT: today I tried again using the manual refresh button in the conversation pane, and it seems it's working as expected a new messages are shown. Not sure what happened yesterday.
