Mail app hangs when selecting a large conversation

The default Elementary OS Mail app freezes for a while when a conversation with much (40+) messages in conversation is selected. Until the whole conversation is loaded Mail does not respond to any clicks.

Apparently, I'm able to open such long conversation threads when disabling "Always show remote images" on Preferences, under Reading section. ¿Maybe it has to be with some redrawing process of some GTK library?
