Cannot delete drafts when offline (gmail)

I am unable to discard saved drafts of outgoing messages until I have an active wifi internet connection. This is with gmail accounts.

Workflow:

1. Open draft in "draft folder"
2. Click on the pencil for "edit"
3. Click on the trash icon for "discard"
4. Nothing happens.

If I repeat steps 1-3 above with an active wifi internet connection, the draft gets discarded. It is unclear whether the program registers the intent and awaits an internet connection to complete the action on the server. Either way, it provides no feedback and appears, from the user's perspective, to do nothing.
