Failed Install Odin 6.0 Affects Seperate Hera 5.1 Install
What Happened
After a failed attempt to install Odin 6.0 Live CD (2021-08-10 download) on a attempted tri-boot config (Windows/Hera 5.1, and Odin 6.0--Windows/Hera worked fine before Odin failed install), the failed Odin 6.0 install affected my separate Hera 5.1 install. Hera 5.1 now takes a very long time to boot (minutes rather than seconds) and seems to reset some settings in Hera 5.1 randomly (e.g., time displayed).
The Odin 6.0 install should install. But even with a failure with the Odin 6.0 install (to a separate partition and separate physical disk), the install should not affect or alter the Hera 5.1 install config.
Steps to Reproduce
- Assume a dual-boot Windows/Hera 5.1 at start of this process. Dual-boot uses the same physical disk, i.e., Hera 5.1 and Windows on same physical disk but in different primary partitions. Call this sda.
- Create separate partition (primary) of 100GB on separate drive. Call this sdb
- Boot using a live USB to Odin 6.0 and start installer.
- Select the newly created 100GB partition on sdb as the Custom install location.
- Installed proceeds (selected US, English, and US keyboard.)
- Install fails (cannot determine why but reported could not install Odin and to try again or abort/terminate). Terminated. (Removed install media and shutdown.)
- Boot into Hera 5.1 from sda.
- Extremely long boot time (3+ minutes). Drive light does normal boot pulsing but then stops (screen showing output from Linux as black screen with mouse icon but no top bar or dock--seems like a boot-limbo state. System then pauses on this screen for several minutes. Disk light rhythmically pulses. Off one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand then pulse of activity for about five seconds, then off for a few seconds, then on. Sits there doing this for several minutes.
- Finally, login screen displays (time wrong).
- Can login finally. Time OK upon login.
- Steps 7-10 persist on reboot of Hera 5.1. Windows seems OK (but I rarely use).
NOTE:
A. After failed Odin install, mounted the separate partition where Odin was selected. sdb in my example.
B. Confirmed that install had installed to this partition. Odin files there.
C. Deleted sdb partition.
