camera-photo isn't very iconic

Point and shoot cameras seem pretty few and far between these days. It might be better to use something that looks more like a DSLR or something more iconic like a Leica camera

Something like a Leica M would be a good fit I think. It's still similar in size and shape, but more iconic color wise.

@brigazvi This icon is probably mostly going to be viewed in sidebars and at other small sizes, so I think it's probably important to start designing at 16px instead of at a large size
