Greeter / Lock Screen prevents the display from going to sleep

Open rdrms opened this issue 5 years ago • 3 comments

If the lock screen or greeter is active, it prevents my display from going to sleep. Instead, if you lock it, after a few moments the screen will turn black with the backlight still on and the display still awake (constant blue LED on the monitor).

I am able to get the display to sleep with 'xset dpms force off', but if "Lock when screen turns off" is active the behaviour is that the screen will turn off for roughly one second (blue LED flashing), then turn back on (red LED), and then display the lock screen (with constant blue "on" LED). Eventually the screen will turn black with backlight on after a few moments of showing the lock screen.

My graphics card is an NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti, current graphics drivers are from the nvidia-driver-390 series, driver: 390.48-0ubuntu3

The monitor is a Achieva Shimian QH270 27" LED 2560x1440. Reported to Switchboard's Displays module as an Aculab Ltd 27". I had some trouble getting this monitor to work with Xorg in earlier versions, but now it works at full resolution with an xorg.conf file.

I'm fairly certain that this is an issue with the greeter, as the monitor turns off without it running and it doesn't happen in other distros or flavours of Ubuntu.

I've noticed on my machine as well, that when on the greeter screen, the monitor never turns off. I've tried manually setting the same settings that I've got for both user accounts when it comes to idle time (org.gnome.desktop.session idle-delay 300), and nothing changes.

When locking via Super+L, the screen immediately turns off as expected, though once the monitor is awoken, it will not turn back off on its own.

I can confirm the same behavior on my Lenovo Thinkpad T430.

I also have this problem on my Lenovo Y580 with fresh stable EOS 6.1. And another related problem: after pressing Super+L the screen goes immediately off, but the music keeps playing(Spotify) and the PC is actually not locked, because if I press some key or move my mouse - the screen goes on and the keyboard/mouse action is executed as if it's not locked(I've moved my mouse to the hot corner and a multitasking view appeared). And only then the greeter appears, the music becomes paused and the PC is actually locked. And the screen stays on forever  Locking action in EOS 5.1.7 was fine.

I've saved the syslog part of this experiment, but seems like there are no interesting details there:

locking, waiting ~5sec, moving mouse or pressing `Space`(sorry, I forgot :) ), then unlocking with a password
