Files app crashed when simutanous downloads occurred in succession in a big folder
What Happened?
When web-scraping and downloading images for a dataset, the files app crashed. After the crash, the app no longer actively incremented the file count until refreshed.
Steps to Reproduce
- Downloaded thousands of files at about 2-4 a second for small image files of a few kb each.
- Wait until around the 17k point

It legit crashed the app. The files app became unresponsive and crashed. My pc still was fully operational.

Gotcha. I was doing download via a python automation.
You can get further info about what is happening by running System Monitor and looking for processes with "io.elementary.files" in the name to see if still running and how much cpu they are using and looking at system resources to see if any cores are maxed out or if there insufficient memory.

I only ran into this category because of working with datasets for ML. Outside of this, I doubt I'd run into it. Kind of a niche issue in most regards. A bit wild to have so many files in a single folder.
Files app managed to crash a second time, this time was with just pure file operations. I believe I was in the folder that was having a lot of directories be created and a lot of files inside those directories. I essentially was copying images and cloning them while doing some basic rotation operations on them, which turned 29k images into 118k images in 2500 directories.

@Tbusk Thanks for the further report. I will try to set up a test scenario to reproduce this issue in the near future. I will then be able to try to make Files more robust wrt the rapid creation of large numbers of files/folders in a monitored folder.

The same happened for me.
Workload: creating a very large count of files (thousands per second) in a few directories (like, disk-root/myapp/00/ to disk-root/.myapp/99/).
Files was not open in either disk-root/.myapp/00/ nor disk-root/.myapp/; it was at disk-root/ instead, in list mode.
