Implement shortcut for renaming in FileChooser

Open BugFixesAndPerformanceImprovements opened this issue 2 years ago • 5 comments

What Happened?

Pressing the F2 keyboard shortcut in the Filechooser to rename a file or folder doesn't do anything. For instance, when loading or saving a file in Code.

Right-clicking on the item and selecting "rename", however, works.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. The Filechooser window pops up whenever saving or opening a file
  2. Select a file or folder to rename
  3. Press F2
  4. Nothing happens

Expected Behavior

Pressing the F2 keyboard shortcut should make the file or folder editable to rename it.

OS Version

7.x (Horus)

Software Version

Latest release (I have run all updates)

For me, there is no Rename... option in the file chooser. Are you sure it is there? In which app? If the option is already there, it would be trivial to add a keyboard shortcut for it.

The FileChooser portal is not intended for renaming files - it is for choosing existing file(s) to load into an app or for saving data from an app to an existing or new file (possibly creating a new folder first). Could you explain the workflow that would require you to rename an arbitrary file during these operations?

Looks like the Gtk.FileChooser does support file renaming.

This is one of several reports requesting shortcuts in the filechooser.
