The Files hangs if you copy/paste from mounted drive
The Files hangs if you copy/paste large files (approximately more than 200mb) from a flash drive or mounted (with the "udisksctl") hard disk.
Despite this, the copy operation is completed.
Yup and here I thought it was just me.
I had the same problem transferring from an external hard drive.
First try, i transferred a folder that contained photos classified by folders. (3.6gb total size). No problem. Second try, i transferred another folder that contained photos classified by folders. (9,7gb total size).
- This time the progress window after a while did not finish and was frozen. Anyway I received a notification of operation completed.
- Then when I try to use Files I get a notification to force close.
(Sorry for my bad english, i'm not a native speaker)
Here some screenshots...
There are some known issues with Files transferring large quantities (especially in the progress indicator). The first transfer operation may go smoothly but you may have to restart Files to be able to do another transfer successfully. Hopefully this will be fixed in the not too distant future.

Hi,
I had the same issue and didn't found any fix search from the internet other then using nautilus to bypass this issue. Is the fix is coming to the final release of eOS 6 or later update for eOS 5.1.7.
Thanks.
Files master is now incompatible with Hera so the next release will be with Odin.
Hi @jeremypw, I was transferring some folders (3 to 15 GB) and I remembered this old problem. And I just wanted to say that I currently don't have this problem anymore. I have tested it with the same laptop and external hard drive. For me the problem is solved ! 😊
@marco4mp Thanks that's good to hear! No sure what commits were responsible for the improvement but tintou did some sterling work on partially porting file operations to Vala so that may have contributed.
@ghost @SBA18 If you are using Odin, it would good to hear whether you too have experienced an improvement in this issue.
