Feature: give devices a custom name

Open snowparrot opened this issue 8 years ago • 4 comments

If the (Usb stick, sd card) device is mounted, I can't change the name.

Expected behaviour:

I can change the name of a device.

Currently only user bookmarks saved in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks can be given a custom name.7 so you need to create a bookmark pointing to the root of the device (display the root folder then choose bookmark from the context menu or press Ctrl-D. You can then rename this. I do not think changing the physical name of volumes on the device is really up to a filemanager - if this is what you want, please clarify.

My intention wasn't the possible behaviour in Linux but to change the name in the file manager via dialog. (e.g right click -> properties)

Your description is sufficient for me but a dialog would make things a lot easier.

OK. It would be possible to add a 'bookmark' option to the context menu (I do not think the properties dialog is appropriate as we are not changing the real properties of the mount), but it would only save one click. I'll classify as "wishlist" needing UX input.

Consider for the Gtk4 version
