Emacs emulation

As the title says, emulating some of the keybindings e.g. copy/pasteing and maybe selection of text would be lovely :-). Extra points for implementing M x!

Yeah, this would be nice. Supporting emacs modelines through a plugin would be cool too.

I am :-1: on this. We need to focus on improving the native interface.

I'm ambivalent on this, I don't think we should be providing compatibility keybindings, but it won't hurt letting the user make their own set of keybindings set to whatever they are more efficient with.

I don't know exactly what Alt + X does in Emacs, but if it is, as I suppose, "execute a command and paste the output", then i have no opinion on it, I don't remember the last time I had a use for something like this.

Having user configurable in-app keybindings is not something implemented in other elementary afaik apps and I am not sure it is compatible with elementary design. Particular features of Emacs can be considered individually for possible implementation in Code of course.
