Confusion about displayed version numbers for updatable apps
To this day I am uncertain about the version number displayed in AppCenter for apps with an update available: Is it the current (installed) version number or the new (updated) version number?
IMO, both numbers should be visible. Perhaps something like this:
1.0.0 --> 1.0.1
dupplicate to #525
@artemanufrij I don't think this is a duplicate.
Just to clarify, @jtrees , I believe you're stating that you think it is unclear whether AppCenter is displaying the currently installed version or the version that will be installed when you click the update button?
Whereas, #525 is a bug where sometimes the wrong version is displayed in AppCenter.
I'm not 100% familiar with the implementation, but I think the intent is that we show the latest AppStream data no matter what. If that's the case, I'd imagine the version displayed is intended to be the latest version regardless of available updates?
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how useful a version number in the top banner is now that we support release descriptions down below. Maybe we could deduce confusion by listing the currently-installed version near the releases where it's more relevant?
Thoughts welcome from @elementary/ux
