Search unexpectedly fails for some strings

Open jeremypw opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

What Happened?

When searching for the Flatpak app "CherryTree", entering "Cherry" failed to find it. However, entering "Cherr" or Cherryt" found the app OK. This could cause a user to believe an app was not available when it is.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open AppCenter and search for "Cherry". CherryTree app is not listed.
  2. Search for "Cherr" or Cherryt" or "tree". The app is listed.

Expected Behavior

The search should work for all reasonable substrings of the app name.

OS Version

8.x (Circe)

Session Type

Secure Session (Wayland)

Software Version

Latest release (I have run all updates)

Log Output

Hey @jeremypw I just tested this on AppCenter, and it seems to work ok, except for tree:

Search for "CherryTree": Image

Search for "Cherry": Image

Search for "Cherr": Image

Search for "Cherryt": Image

Searching for "tree" fails though: Image

In all searches but the last one, I can see the CherryTree App.

I'll assume that you'd want to be able to handle searches for substrings?

If that is correct, I'll check that out and see if I can make something work here. I think there is at least another issue involving spaces in search and substrings (issue #1556), so I'll check that out as well.
