Cannot uninstall Mail

Open svandragt opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

What Happened?

I installed another mail client and wanted to uninstall Mail.

When I press uninstall Appcenter appears to launch the uninstall process but the app remains available.

Is this a bug or a feature? if the latter, perhaps it's possible to uninstall the icon only and registeration as a default app for email, or hide the uninstall button.

The app is listed as "elementary Updates" repository in AppCenter.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Update Elementary OS 7 with all system updates
  2. go to mail in the appcenter and press the uninstall button
  3. the app is still available in the app center and the Applications menu

Expected Behavior

The app is uninstalled and removed from the applications menu.

OS Version

7.x (Horus)

Software Version

Latest release (I have run all updates)

Log Output

No response

This definitely isn't expected behavior. Transferring to AppCenter for now. My guess is this has something to do with "recommends" packages being pulled in by meta packages again on upgrade

I had the same issue with the calendar. Wanted to remove it and replace it with the flatpak version, but it's impossible to remove it from appcenter. At first it seems to work but then it will just show up as installed again seconds later. It was only able to remove it from the terminal with apt: sudo apt remove maya-calendar

so that should work for mail too.

I had a slightly different behaviour : I did manage to uninstall "mail" thru the App Center but I still had the icon without any other dependency in the packages, I just had to delete "io.elementary.mail.desktop" in usr/share/applications 🤔
