To clarify, does this refer to installation of apps that aren't already present in the "Updates" tab? Because we already show progress for updates right now.
Consolidated a few issues here since they were all related. For the record, this issue is that currently-installing apps should appear in the list of apps on the "Installed" (formerly known as "Updates") tab since they are in the process of being installed. This mitigates the need for a separate "installation queue" UI as it puts them where it makes sense in the current design of the app.
From #624:
In the current system, when a new app is downloaded, its progress is visible only in the app's page. This makes it harder to manage multiple new app downloads. So it could be better if the downloads of all new apps (apps that are not installed) are shown in one single place for users to manage or keep track of. A trivial solution would be to show all the newly installing apps in the "Updates" tab. –@SubhadeepJasu
From #387:
Can you guys add an installation queue where it says "Hey, these apps are installing" instead of having to click around to find the status of each app. –@ghost
I don't see why these shouldn't be listed in the updates section, it's a similar process. Most of the logic should already be there. –@lewisgoddard

Actually I feel like "causality is reversed" so to speak. The "Updates" tab is in reality an "Installed" tabs that also have buttons to update software. I feel like it would be more intuitive to rename the tab than to put a third tab that does the same thing as the second, but was named differently in the first place.
@SolarLiner You have seen the latest updates regarding the AppCenter?

I'd like to add up to this thread/conversation/issue with my personal thoughts based on very recent experience.
I just installed ElementaryOS on my desktop machine, I used to work on a laptop, so many of the installed apps I had on the laptop weren't installed on my new machine.
So I had to open the AppCenter, search for the apps I needed, click the install button and then move again to the search bar, do the search and install. I repeated this process for every (8 in total) app I needed to install.
The main problem here is that I haven't been able to see both the total progress of my app downloads and the actual partial progress of each apps' download.
Since the app download process is already been tracked in the app detail page, I think it wouldn't be so hard to put all those information in one single place (maybe an "Installing" tab?) with the overall progress also presented to the user.
Maybe this progress can also be made available in the dock.
From a UI point of view, the "Installing" tab could be blank when no operations are in progress, and filled with content only when there's actually something going on (installation or updates).
This way the "Installed" tab would be more focused on information about the applications installed (changelog, memory usage, statistics, disk usage, updates from the author, additional resources) whereas the "Installing" tab would share information about everything related to progress, download, update and so on.
Seems a bit disregarded for 3 years.
Is this still on-going?
Since AppCenter has been redesigned a bit, maybe it'll make more sense to show one more separate screen for that? It'll only appear when there are apps that are currently being downloaded or updated.
