Sending gifs/stickers from Gboard opens file share room selector
Gboard and probably other keyboard apps have features to send gifs and stickers. Currently sending a gif/sticker that way makes Riot Android open the file share room selector. It would be much nicer to have it send it directly to the room (maybe with a confirmation).
Also, both types are currently uploaded as images named inputContent. It should use a better name (add the correct file extension at least) and stickers should be sent with event type m.sticker
Two previous issues (#1516 and #1581) reported gifs from Gboard not working, but it currently seems to work with that sub-optimal UX.
Environment: Android 8.1, Riot 0.8.18 from Google play
Since recently, instead of getting the room selector (which was kinda workable) I now get a toast saying "Riot.im doesn't support image insertion here" - and the GIF funcionality is entirely gone. (back to #1516) It is unclear to me if this is due to a change in Riot or a change in GBoard.
Riot version 0.99 (F-5da259a74) GBoard 9.0.10.293644873-release-arm64-v8a
Please switch to RiotX application, which is still in beta, and misses features (calls for instance).
But sending image/gif/sticker and other from Gboard is supported by RiotX.
You can install RiotX along with Riot Android on the same phone.
Wow it's pretty!
The latest version of RiotX from the play store is still giving me this issue.
Is this expected? Is there any information I can provide to help?
Thanks!
It's not this issue, since this is not the RiotX repo. You should make an issue about the regression in the riotx repo and then submit debug logs.
