Can not see nor accept invite

Steps to reproduce

1. Where are you starting? What can you see?

• Create a new user B created with mas-cli on custom synapse instance
• User A invites that user (before first time login) to a private space
• Login for the first time on Element X with that user and create recovery key, write it down
• Can't see any invites nor getting any notifications for invites

2. Case B

• After not seeing any invites, user A uninvites user B
• User A invites user B again
• Get invitation notification and click it
• See the name, member count and description of space but can't accept the invite, getting the error "You need an invite to join this room"

Possible duplicate of #1561, #3674 or #3633 although they seem different

Outcome

What did you expect?

A) To see the invitation and be able to accept it B) To accept the invite and join the rooms

What happened instead?

A) Can't see the invite at all B) Can't accept the invite
