Steps to reproduce

  1. open matrix hq from room list on bad data
  2. stare at an infinite loading spinner
  3. realise app is no longer responding to touch
  4. force quit to recover

opening a room from the roomlist should never ever block on network activity, otherwise offline mode will never work.
