Expose low priority room filters
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I have many conversations which I participate in only so I receive mention/keyword notifs for that room, or that I can dip into when I think of it, but otherwise never want to see the room - I don’t care about its activity at all otherwise.
In other words: I want to lurk in these rooms without them ever appearing at the top of my room list, cluttering up the room list, starving out rooms whose activity i actually care about.
Another use case is if you have embarrassing rooms in your room list which you don’t want bubbling to the top and getting shouldersurfed.
Describe the solution you'd like
Mark the room as “low priority” or “hidden” and put it behind a filter - much like iOS lets you hide photos these days.
Describe alternatives you've considered
You could just mute the room, but it’s not obvious that muted rooms should drop to the bottom of the roomlist or be hidden entirely by default.
For instance you may want to just mute a room while steal seeing when it has new activity by having it raise up in the room list.
Additional context
This isn’t just me; it keeps coming up in the public EXI room.
I would definitely use this, just like with archive in Whastapp. I like the idea of calling the filter 'hidden' (or 'archived'). Something about low priority doesn't quite fit imo
I guess this would also need the option to hide and unhide rooms in EX to go with it (with consistent wording to the filter)
“Low Priority” was my fault as a term in the first place - we were looking for a word which was the “opposite of favourite”; ie rooms you don’t care about, and “low priority” was the best we could think of as a temporary measure, and like all temporary measures it then stuck around for the next 7 years.
“Hidden” (with hidden semantics) sounds much better in retrospect.
fwiw without mute/low priority filtering the client is mostly useless for me. I am in number of high traffic rooms which swamp out the other rooms (that I actually care about), and the fact that top bar requires horizontal scrolling to even switch to 'favourites' tops it off.
I hope this gets addressed sooner rather than later (at least before the Element iOS winds up really on the chopping block).
