USB Camera Input
Your use case
What would you like to do?
Maybe I'm missing it, but when I connect a USB capture card, it creates a camera input that I can see in some apps. I see Element has a camera chooser, but it doesn't show up in that list. I want to be able to select it.
Why would you like to do it?
For better picture quality and ability to move the camera away from the device. I'm going overseas at the end of the month and wanted to use my DSLR for the video chat input. I thought the camera selection would work the same way as the desktop application.
How would you like to achieve it?
I want to plug in the card and camera cable, then select it from the list.
Have you considered any alternatives?
I have tried a few different apps running at the same time, thinking maybe if they would create a virtual camera or something, but have been stumped so far. Rooting is not an option.
Additional context
I'm using a Samsung Tab S10 FE with the latest Android (16?) and a USB HDMI capture card which does work with other apps and operating systems.
Are you willing to provide a PR?
No
Also, I am using the fdroid version of Element X, so if by some miracle (for me), someone fixes this and submits the PR all within the next few weeks, I would prefer that's where the change shows up first.
I will obviously donate.
