Sound settings
Settings to change the audio volume of different sounds. This way you can set the notification sound lower than the audio in calls.
It would be nice to control Microphone Volume, and also Boost Microphone, Voice Activation Detection, Push to Talk, and so on. And also per user volume control, for example increase/decrease volume of the users in conference call (if you hear a specific user less, increase his volume for you). And Master volume control.
I too am interested in both sets of proposed volume control settings! This is something directly valuable to something we're working on implementing.
I personally consider this a crucial feature and would really like to see it being implemented in Riot. Preferably in the form of volume sliders for sound in- and output as well as different options for microphone activation.
current situation is terrible on my system using the desktop app. the sound volume level must be near 100% for hearing the other side in a call but with 100% sound volume on the speakers i nearly get a heartattack and tinnitus because it's simply too loud. a separate control for notification- , call ringing- and in-call-volume would really help. /cc @t3chguy
Why are you pinging me? Its definitely not on my todo list, it sounds like a nice place for the community to step in.
I'll put my +1 on this, I get a heart attack at every call :)

Same, next time Ill either have a heart attack or punch my monitor instinctively
I would like to be able to adjust the notification sound's volume myself. I have to turn off notifications for my desktop sessions because they're ear-splittingly loud, and since this and Discord both identify as Chromium in the volume mixer I can't adjust it without nearly muting Discord calls.
If there's any way that we could get Element to show up as not Chromium, but Element for things like Pulse Audio, that would be appreciated for this function, and others. But perhaps it's still worth having the sound level controls within Element. Not just for notifications, but also Microphone, and other VoIP/audio aspects.
@BloodyIron are you talking about the Webapp or the Desktop app? If the desktop app then that depends on how it was packaged but I don't recall the official distribution of Element not appearing as itself
I am able to repro this with the desktop app on Debian...
https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/7470 looks to be closed, very strange. Wonder if it is an Electron regression. Given the 2 other references to this closed issue it does seem likely. Anyway, off-topic for this issue.

Well as far as I understood it, the Desktop app is the Web App rebundled as a Desktop package. So in my case I'm talking about the Desktop app, but isn't in the same codebase?
Sure, but a webapp cannot control what identifier comes up for Pulse Audio, it is part of the web browser. The desktop app, that's part of Electron, out of Element Desktop's hands. Possibly a bad packaging but given that other Electron apps are seeing the same issue that does not seem to be the case.
Element Desktop contains an Element Web instance, but then has even more code, such as Seshat and Keytar, as well as the Electron stuff.
4 years open, still going strong! Can't wait for next years anniversary, let's gather on an element call to celebrate
Close to a decade goin strong. Hopefully someone will have cycles for basic volume controls in the next decade... Would love for my grand kids to set microphone activation.
