Emoji autosuggestion in macOS Sequoia via ctrl-cmd-space doesn't work sensibly

Open ara4n opened this issue 4 weeks ago • 3 comments

Steps to reproduce

  1. Type squirrel into the composer
  2. Hit ctrl-cmd-space to insert an emoji
  3. Discover that rather than getting your full fat OS emoji picker, you instead get a single option to propose a squirrel emoji:
Image
  1. Click on it. Nothing happens.
  2. Hit enter to select it like you would in the full-fat emoji picker - and the composer suddenly sends the partially composed message (having appended the emoji)
  3. Double-clicking on it would have inserted the emoji (but why would you double click? the full-fat one lets you single-click)
  4. Pressing 'space' would have inserted it too, apparently.

Outcome

What did you expect?

UX should work like a normal macOS app like Notes.app:

  • Hitting enter should insert the emoji, not send the message.
  • Hitting the down-key should have gone into full-fat mode.
  • Single-click should insert the emoji.

What happened instead?

None of the above.

I cannot reproduce this, it works identically for me between this field in Github & ED normal composer.

Comes up with the mini, down arrow opens full, enter accepts, clicking on it once never accepts in any web app, double clicking does.

Trying in Notes it also needs a double click for me.
