Selecting text of a message

Open daletman opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Your use case

What would you like to do?

I would like to be able to only select a portion of a text message. Currently the only way I found is to copy the whole message, paste it somewhere and then select what I really need.

Why would you like to do it?

Because sometimes things like an email address is sent which I want to copy for example to create a new contact.

How would you like to achieve it?

Maybe a special mode in which the message becomes a text where all the OS default text tools are available

Have you considered any alternatives?

Just switched from Android to iOS this week and it really bothers me that selecting and copping only a part of a message seems not to be possible on the iOS version of Element.

There is a workaround: You can go to View Source and there can find the message and copy parts

The source also shows line breaks and some special chars as escape sequences. So I have do manually edit in another app, like the notes app. If I have to edit it anyway, I can just copy the whole thing to the notes app and delete the parts I don't need. So, that workaround doesn't make anything easier.
