Cannot guarantee authenticity of encrypted message
Steps to reproduce
According to the reporting person (which is not actually me), this happened suddenly, it is not bound to a new session on their device.
Outcome
What did you expect?
Since end to end encrypted messages by senders who verified themself to each other and send from verified sessions, no issue or warning was expected.
What happened instead?
Old and new messages they receive to their iPhone show a grey shield, stating that The authenticity of this encrypted message can't be guaranteed on this device. This possibly is related to issues such as https://github.com/vector-im/element-web/issues/16336, however:
- it also affects new messages
- it at first occoured on
element-desktop, but then magically switched toelement-ioswhile it randomly occoured but then vanished onelement-desktopfrom time to day, but appears to be permanent onelement-ios - logging off and on again does not help
- clearing cache does not help
- reverifying to each other does not help
- it partially also seems to affect their own messages from different devices
- sender info shows under "Verification(? german locale)"
NOT verified
From reading issues, it did not become clear to me what exactly causes this warning and it confuses and scares users affected by it. I suggest a "more info" button of some sort to understand what is happening and if possible, how it can be fixed by the user if it cannot be fixed that easily.

Hi thanks @verymilan. Do you know if they see any errors on the Security screen of the app's Settings?
Hi thanks @verymilan. Do you know if they see any errors on the Security screen of the app's Settings?
no errors are displayed
seems like it still is an issue
Definitely still an issue, I'm getting it showing up on the desktop app and Element X for Android, but not on Chromium from what I can see.
I'm also getting this in Element X on Android, web Element is fine though.
