Add a setting to select a custom notification sound

Your use case

What would you like to do?

I am personally not a fan of the default Notification sound for Element. To me it's harsh.

Why would you like to do it?

I would like to globally customize a sound for notifications in Element.

How would you like to achieve it?

Go to iOS Settings > Notifications > Element and change the default tone.

Have you considered any alternatives?

To my knowledge, there is no way to customize notification sounds for Element iOS at this time.

This could potentially be a nice feature for users with multiple devices/accounts where they could have a different sound for a personal account vs a work account.

I'd also really appreciate more configurability, e.g. per-room notification sounds like you can set on element-web.

I’d also like a setting to not have a specific notification sound and just use the system default.

Any update on this? The default sound is really annoying…

While I'll add a "me too", I was actually surprised to find this wasn't already supported, coming from Android where I've been using this for a very long time. For multi platform users such as myself, this experience is actually jarring and I spent a long time thinking that the problem was actually me and that I was clearly just "holding it wrong". I spent close to two hours on this before I finally found this bug report showing that it was not, in fact, my error. I crawled through every single setting in iOS, tried setting sounds for that user based on recommendations because they were associated with an email address (not relevant for multi-user or public rooms, but yeah...) and so very many other things. I have a custom notification mp3 for several rooms on Desktop/Web and on Android and to just have this not available on iOS was a completely unexpected scenario to come across.

(I'm also running into an issue where no content is in the message notifications, such as a message preview, and I'm struggling to determine if that too is iOS specific when TouchID is enabled, but haven't been able to do so....and sadly the "override do not disturb for these contacts" on iOS leaves much to be desired....)

I too would love to change the default notification sound. I am also surprised that it has not been incorporated into the app yet. Wonder if there has been any update to this feature?
