Your Element is misconfigured Unexpected error preparing the app. See console for details.
Steps to reproduce
I am starting element-desktop and got the following error, even if I use a new profile with "--profile foo":
I tried the fix from Issue #1855 (Disable Cache), but it does not help. As mentioned: It even does not work on an empty profile, so perhaps no caching issue.
I opened the log and got the following:
If I start with "element.exe --profile foo --hidden" (starting minimized to systray) it seems to work (at least for some weeks now). The error says "Cannot access 'U' before initialization". Elements startup is not very fast and over VPN at home with roaming profiles. So, could it perhaps be a race condition where element tries to do something before the gui is 100% up and running?
I could perhaps send more logs if needed, but i have no admin rights. Only a normal staff member at our university... So I have to see...
Outcome
What did you expect?
No error on startup.
What happened instead?
Error-Screen as showing above: "https://github.com/element-hq/element-desktop/issues/1855"
Operating system
Windows 10
Application version
1.11.77
How did you install the app?
We use the nupkg update packages from packages.element.io and unpack it with 7zip to c:\program files\element. We cannot use the official installer or updater, because installing or even starting any program in user home is prohibited for security reasons.
Homeserver
Synapse 1.114.0
Will you send logs?
No
The problem persists with version 1.11.78.
Element Desktop seems to work again with version 1.11.80. Perhaps a coincidence? I'll try the next versions too...
Bug seems also away with version 1.11.82. Will try the next version and close this topic, if the bug stays away.
Still away with version 1.11.84, so closed for now.
