Local network access permission prompt on macOS 15 beta 7

Open northalpha opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Steps to reproduce

Install macOS Beta, in my case beta 7, Apple introduces a "feature" that every App requesting local network access wil prompt the user to allow this. so good, so fine.

I am wondering why is Element using / requesting this permission? Maybe, if this i a legit use case and i do not know about it, you may want to check out https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2024/10123/?time=1094 for customizing the the default "prompt" and update the user about why this access is needed, otherwise the default prompt will be show opening element the first time after update to macOS 15 (even after beta this will be in the release Apple told macadmins around the world)

So i would like to encourage developers to either stop "scanning" / access local network devices either from the framework or willingly (i do not think this is the case here to be clear) or at least alter / enhance the prompt for the user to be able to make a choice if this should be allowed / wanted usage or not. (see WWDC Video about the options you have)

Happy to assists any further if wanted/needed
