App crashes under Linux

Open melroy89 opened this issue 1 year ago • 6 comments

Steps to reproduce

  1. Use the latest Synapse server
  2. I also enabled sliding sync at the server side.
  3. I did NOT enabled sliding sync in Element desktop
  4. Using the latest Element version
  5. (No idea how to trigger it exactly...)

Outcome

What did you expect?

No crashes.

What happened instead?

Application crashes at random, element desktop is just gone.

See these logs: https://termbin.com/ikp9 (thank you System Reports from Linux Mint)

I don't think I can use /rageshake since the app already fully crashed. So..

Operating system

Linux Mint 21.3 (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS based)

Application version

Element version: 1.11.58 Crypto version: Olm 3.2.15

How did you install the app?

Deb package via packages.element.io

Homeserver

server.melroy.org

Will you send logs?

No

I've the same problem: the client crashes regularly and it's quite a PITA.

On the console the last lines I could get are those:

[20182:0227/171511.242286:ERROR:gl_surface_presentation_helper.cc(260)] GetVSyncParametersIfAvailable() failed for 1 times!
[20182:0227/171511.248431:ERROR:gl_surface_presentation_helper.cc(260)] GetVSyncParametersIfAvailable() failed for 2 times!
[20182:0227/171520.437510:ERROR:gl_surface_presentation_helper.cc(260)] GetVSyncParametersIfAvailable() failed for 3 times!
Warning: terminator_CreateInstance: Failed to CreateInstance in ICD 1. Skipping ICD.

I have the same message, but for me it doesn't crash, the element window just goes all white and unresponsive.

Might be related to https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/32760 ?

Apparently disabling hardware acceleration is a workaround ( app.disableHardwareAcceleration() )

(btw: debian sid, gnome desktop, wayland, element-desktop 1.11.59 from https://packages.element.io/debian/)

oh, please note that I do get the « GetVSyncParametersIfAvailable() failed for x times » messages, but that they do not seem to be the cause of my blanking windows. For me, element just continues to work after receiving those messages. I'll investigate further and see if I can relate the blanking window to another message.

yeah it just crashes for me, after a while or when I maximize the window.. when I then start element again it wants me to login again.
It also somehow killed my browser session on another device.

Same here: without any message, Element Desktop crashes randomly. Moreover when upgraded os to 24.04, I have the same problem that @hobbes is repoting.

Same here: Window goes white after a few seconds. Happens to me since my update to Fedora 40 - Plasma 6.
