Impossible to uninstall the app
When I try to uninstall Element, the app manager just crashes. This happens every time, and only with Element.
It happens on my phone too, up to date Samsung Xcover 5 (SM-G525F) with Android 12 with november security patch). Element was installed via F-Droid. Update works, but uninstall is not possible.
Element 1.5.4 [40105040] (F-db35f5c7)
I've tested this in an Android 13 emulator with both Google Play and F-Droid but could not reproduce.

The problem still exists on my device.
I still can't remove the application from my phone. It was installed via FDroid and I can update it through the FDroid client but any attempt to remove it fails. Sometimes I see a short notes about the uninstaller app crashing.
I had the same problem on my phone with a custom rom. I used a third party uninstaller from fdroid with root permissions and was able to remove it. I do not know if it works without root. No warrenty for the linked tool. https://f-droid.org/packages/com.saha.batchuninstaller/

Thanks for the hint, sadly it can't uninstall Signal on my non-rooted phone. The uninstaller program repeatedly and reproduceable crashes if i attempt to uninstall it.
Did you try with or without root? Maybe tr to downgrade the app version and retry.

I don't root my phones, so i can1t test it with root. About downgrading: i suspect it would not help. The Batch Uninstaller itself doesn't uninstall anything, just instructs the underlying OS to uninstall programs, now seemingly this system-provided uninstaller is crashing, but i can be wrong. I just want to delete the program without needlessly having to learn and debug the android ecosystem and without restoring the phone.
I have what might be a similar problem : I would like to switch from Google Play flavour to F-Droid flavour, on GrapheneOS. I uninstall the Google Play app (which seems to succeed : the app does not appear neither on the launcher nor in the apps list). But when I try to install the F-Droid app from Obtainium, I get the message "Errors have occurred - Incompatible: [im.vector.app]" and the install process fails.
From now on I consider Element as a rootkit and will warn everybody against using it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy A7 running Android 13 and just installed Element from the Play Store. Now I can't uninstall it. Element is the ONLY non-system app I've been unable to uninstall. What do to? Please don't suggest rooting my device or using adb. None of that should be necessary and, in any case, Android Studio/adb refuses to see my device with a cable which works perfectly fine with Android File Transfer. I honestly think Element should be removed from the Play Store until this issue has been resolved.
fwiw, cannot reproduce here; the app uninstalls like normal after signing out. Unmodded Android 10, 1.6.5 from F-droid.
still happening for me on the F-Droid 1.6.18 build. Android 12 on Samsung Galaxy S10. i will also warn against anybody installing this app given this bug
