thanks for raising, we'll need some extra information to help debug this

  • which variant of the app are you using, fdroid or google play?
  • are you able to share a screenshot of your battery usage screen? or other form of evidence to show that element is using more battery than expected

Hello!

• Google Play. • Unfortunately, i found a solution to fix the battery drain which is to turn off notifications from within the app settings(which is not a very good situation, really... because apparently, when i turn off the notifications, the messages i receive in the app do not update either, until i actually open the app), so i can't provide any evidence at the moment, unless you'd need me to turn the notifications back on and let the app use extra battery and i show you the screenshots?

Are you still facing this issue? There has been some work around notifications and background sync, so if it's still present it would be great to have some screenshots or maybe logs from the device.

You can probably take a screenshot of Settings (Android settings, not the app's) > Battery > Battery usage > Element where we can see the foreground and background time and maybe if there are some restrictions in battery usage in background. Note that this screen might not be the same on the MIUI OS that your device probably has.

As for the logs, you can send an error report either by rageshaking (shaking the phone while the app is visible) or by tapping on the 3-dots menu on the room list screen and then on 'send report'. We can get better logs if before that you go the the app's Settings > Advanced settings screen and enable Developer mode and extended logs. Once the app has been working for a while and you notice the battery drain (after a few hours or the end of the day, maybe) send the report. To make it easier to match this issue and the uploaded report maybe you can add the issue's # to the title you can provide (it's #4967).

facing the same issue, element took about 75% battery in a day :X unfortunately, battery usage does not show foreground/background info, running on lineageos on a oneplus 3t

+1

This app has been eating significantly more battery in recent weeks than it did previously.
