IMAP - new mail notifications

Open zbigniew-polito opened this issue 1 year ago • 5 comments

New mail notifications while using imap worked for a while, and then stopped working. The script-connectionless does not get executed when new email arrives, when you push New Message button in options page or Message read button then it works fine. When i read message the callback gets called properly, i have noticed that new emails on imap came with event type 'start' not 'new' but this should not be a problem. i am using version 6.0-tb, on new one it does not see my favourited folder i want to be notified about, there are no visible errors.

@sphh Can you have a look since the issue is with the "extended" mode?

@electrotype: I noticed the same behaviour as described by @zbigniew-polito. I cannot remember with which Thunderbird version this started. IIRC it first became unreliable (not all new messages were displayed) and then it stopped to work completely. Does it still work with the simple script? But to e honest, I will not find the time to look into this and debug it. So sorry.

@sphh Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the simple mode seems to work properly. I still use it myself every day so I'm ok with maintaining it.

Sadly, if you do not have the time to maintain the extended mode, I will have to indicate that it is not maintained anymore and that it may not work. I may also ask if someone is willing to fix it. I will not do it myself as I do not use this mode and don't have time/energy to maintain it.

@zbigniew-polito Feel free if you want to have a look and submit a PR.

I will try to debug it, for now I have restarted my computer, and it started working again.

I just switched all my email accounts to imap and now I'm seeing this problem as well. The script is not always triggered on a new email. It worked fine with pop3.

I will probably deprecate the extension since it is not reliable. I'll leave the code open, of course, in case someone with more time/energy wants to investigate and fork it.

The imap problem doesn't seem to be that easy to debug since it's not reproducible on demand.
